Luc – aka ldad – created the layout and colours and I turned them into functional reality. (If you like it and you want something for yourself, we can hook you up – just drop me an email). Thanks a ton Luc, I think it looks sweet!

Please let me know what you think and give me a head’s up if you notice anything that doesn’t work or look right (you may notice issues particularly if you use the unreliable and insecure Internet Explorer instead of the magnificent Firefox).

Enjoy.

I had a moment to spend on updating the site so I did. I have upgraded it to WordPress 2.02, which will probably be entirely transparent to all of you, but which gives me a very nice back-end administration area.

I have also added a couple of plugins. Simpletags is a plugin that lets you easily add Technorati tags to your posts, a feature that is meaningless for those of you that don’t use Technorati. You’ll see the new tags at the bottom of posts regardless.

I’ve also added a plugin that lets users easily submit to some of the more popular social bookmarking sites out there, like del.icio.us and Reddit, two of my favourites. Del.icio.us is especially great if you are a habitual link packrat. This plugin will only display when you click through to the post.

I also reorganized the sidebar a little bit and improved the search. Hopefully it’s a little easier to navigate now.

Thanks for sticking through the extended dry spell, I seem to have a little more time for writing lately so I plan on doing so.

Technorati Tags: Simpletags, Technorati

Yup, it’s a brutal pun, but I couldn’t resist. That’s what I’m calling the latest little widget I’ve added to this blog, a cool little plug-in called Shoutbox. You can see it at the very bottom of the sidebar on the right. Basically it’s a live chat box (go say something). I came across this while researching the AJAX technology I mentioned here a little while ago.

Why the sudden onslaught of geekiness? In the last few months my work has taken a sharp turn into web development territory. I never normally talked about the tech stuff because it was all client-side – that is, it sat on my own personal computer – so I couldn’t ever demonstrate anything I was working on. Now, however, I’m starting to get into stuff that you can see, because it’s web-based. And truthfully, it’s also a lot more exciting.

But don’t worry, I have plans in the works to minimize the pain for those of you who have no interest in these subjects, though for now your best bet is to just ignore anything that gets posted in the “Business and Technical” category.

Originally written Monday, November 08, 2004

Not long ago, I was talking to my good friend Wayne about George Bush and the latest terrible events in Iraq, including the recent study estimating that since the beginning of the war 100,000 civilians have died. (The majority of the deaths, by the way, are women and children and the majority were caused by American air strikes). I believe at the time I was explaining that I’d like to create a life-size George Bush out of pumpkins and sticks in my backyard, and then invite friends over to have a few drinks and subsequently a few whacks at Mr. Bush with a hefty stick.

That was when Wayne said to me, “Ade, don’t get consumed by hate.”

As usual, he’s right. And oddly enough, that’s what started this blog. This is going to be where I whack Bush’s pumpkin head with a literary stick. In the process, I hope to tackle various other vegetables posing as world leaders, and give my opinions on a wide variety of subjects. I hope you enjoy reading them, and I hope you take the time to comment, both on what I say and how I say it. What you think is what I want to know and by listening to you I hope to learn how I can improve what I write.

The challenge we face to take this planet back from the murderous lunatics who are bent on wrecking it is enormous, but we have to do it or suffer the consequences. I hope you’ll share your thoughts and ideas about how we’re going to do it. And if at some point you can’t take it any more, drop me an email: there’s a pumpkin with an uncanny resemblance to W in my backyard waiting for us.
